IHHELPP Bohol was established through Louell Lorzano, a BYU- Hawaii alumna from Bohol who came back to the Philippines after her undergraduate studies in the United States. While a student, she was an IHHELPP volunteer who wished to branch out the non-profit organization to her hometown,
Clarin in Bohol, that was heavily r u i n e d b y a 7 . 3 m a g n i t u d e earthquake five years ago (October 15, 2013). Although it has been a while since the earthquake took place, she saw that there was a pressing need for disaster-resilient buildings in the community as sparse aftershocks were still felt in her

hometown. Also, Clarin lacked defecation and sanitation facilities for people living near the coastal areas. Louell expressed her concerns to the IHHELPP board and her desire to bring IHHELPP to Bohol.

She went to work and started coordinating with local barangay officials.

IHHELPP Bohol’s Purpose
IHHELPP Bohol’s purpose is not different from IHHELPP. They hope to build disaster - resilient communities using CEB or
compressed-earth blocks and SIP or structural insulated panels technologies introduced by IHHELPP.

They also aim to provide livelihood opportunities for locals focusing on individuals and families struggling to find employment.

The Vision:
In its early beginnings in July 2018, IHHELPP Bohol has started building four communal restrooms in the municipalities of Inabanga, Clarin, Tubigon and Calape which were badly hit by the earthquake five years ago. These projects brought sanitary facilities with clean water sources for communities and elementary schools.

After the completion of the first batch of bathroom projects, IHHELPP Bohol aims to be self-reliant by producing CEB blocks and forming a skilled team of disaster- resilient home builders.

“We are grateful and blessed to have this non-profit program that will change the lives of many,” said Louell Lorzano. “We hope to scout more donors and people who are willing to help out in providing this opportunity to other areas in Bohol.”
